There are actually 11 criteria used for determining the severity of addiction; they include:
  1. Lack or Loss of Control – Taking too much and for longer than intended.
  2. A Desire to Cut Back – Wanting to cut back or quit but being unable to do so.
  3. Total Time Spent – Increased time spent obtaining the drugs or alcohol.
  4. Substance Cravings – Intense desire to obtain and use substance of choice.
  5. Prioritizing Use – Drug or alcohol use has become more of a priority than home, school or work.
  6. Relationship Issues – Personal relationships are impacted negatively by the use.
  7. Lack of Social Interest – Stops going to gatherings and activities to use drugs or alcohol instead.
  8. Dangerous Situations – Continues to use the substance, even when in a high risk situation.
  9. Worsening Problems – Substance abuse creates worsened physical or psychological problems.
  10. Tolerance Builds – A need for more of the substance is required to achieve desired effect.
  11. Withdrawal Symptoms – Physical or emotional symptoms can include: tremors, anxiety, irritability, sweating, nausea and vomiting.

If medical detox is required, Harmony offers sub-acute and medically supervised detox in the comfort of our residential inpatient facility. During detox, you will be kept safe and comfortable until you are ready to begin your next level of care.

Step 3: Residential Care

Once you graduate detox, you are ready to begin the real work. During your inpatient stay, you will be provided with the education and tools you need to get sober and prevent future relapse. Our program is built to help you identify how addiction has manifested in you so you can focus on treatment that motivates you the most to change.

Step 4: Outpatient

The most effective long-term care includes a transitional program. We offer outpatient care as a transitional program for our residential clients as well as individuals who do not require detox and the more structured environment that inpatient care provides. For our clients who don’t live nearby, upscale sober living homes are provided.

Step 5: Aftercare for Alumni

The work of recovery and our connection to our clients continues long after you graduate from your treatment program at Harmony Place. Alumni of both our residential or outpatient programs are invited to remain a part of the Harmony Place family through participation in our ongoing alumni program at no additional cost.
