Sober Living Los Angeles California

Structured Transitional Living in a Recovery Home

The life of an addict can be treacherous. Personal needs, health and safety get set aside in pursuit of the next “high.”

It is imperative to alter the trajectory of addictive compulsions. One way is to “live” or “behave” in a healthy rhythm to become accustomed to living sober. When living sober feels more natural, staying sober becomes attainable.

Proper accommodation and care are necessary to reset one’s internal clock. Often, the environments where someone lived during their active addiction become imprinted, along with the addiction, in the brain. Returning to one’s previous living arrangements following residential treatment is often a set-up for relapse. Merely returning to an environment associated to addictive use can activate compulsions and craving. The newly sober individual is rarely prepared for all of the associated stressors that could activate urges, cravings and behaviors that lead to relapse.

Located just minutes away from our residential facility, the Harmony Place sober living home is comfortably nestled in a quiet neighborhood in Los Angeles & Woodland Hills, California. This spacious, private location lends itself to idyllic sanctuary, relieving concerns for personal comfort so individuals can focus on their goals in outpatient treatment and prepare to return to their families and communities as productive, sober members.

Transitional Living

The Value of Structured Transitional Living Home Los Angeles

While residential treatment offers the beginning to your journey to wellness, and extended outpatient treatment provides the foundation for building confidence and self-esteem, transitional living is a place where clients practice the art of living with less restriction.

This is a setting in which the client can actively use the relapse prevention strategies that they have learned, discussed and adopted as their own. It is a critical precursor to long-term recovery.

Practicing relapse prevention strategies and experiencing even tiny successes lead to hope, and that hope is a strong motivator for continued compliance. Success in recovery restores the human dignity that was once lost in the throes of addiction.

Individuals who complete our 30-day residential program have the option to extend their time in treatment by staying in the same area and transitioning to outpatient care. They can live in our opulent transitional home during this time, which allows them to continue to focus on their recovery in a less clinically intensive setting.

This large residence is reserved for clients who have successfully completed a residential treatment program and exhibited motivation to change, compliance with treatment, and a genuine desire to live a sober and productive life.

Long-Term Care

Transitional Living Within the Larger Continuum of Care

At Harmony Place Sober Living we’re proud to offer the full continuum of addiction care over a 90-day treatment period. This means clients can progress through detox and residential care into outpatient treatment and, ultimately, aftercare. Studies have shown that 90 days of addiction treatment greatly reduces the rate of relapse compared to 30-day programs.

We view transitional living as more than a transition: It’s a transformation. When transitional living is combined with outpatient treatment, it provides a significant level of stability coming out of residential treatment, yet a little more autonomy and real-world exposure. Clients can even resume some of their work or school responsibilities during this time.

Frequently Asked Questions

Structured Transitional Living Los Angeles FAQs

If you have any additional questions about sober & transitional living and our recovery home, read through these frequently asked questions to see if we have your answer:

How do you maintain a sober environment in the transitional home?

Our transitional living managers not only supervise the transitional living home, but they are also part of the outpatient treatment team. While structure is reduced in transitional living (compared to the residential program), oversight is not.

Of course, drugs and alcohol are not allowed in the home. Curfews are enforced and drug tests are occasionally administered. Otherwise, clients experience much more freedom and real-world immersion than they do in residential treatment. We offer various sources of entertainment throughout the home, as well as a plethora of group activities and outings. This helps ward off boredom, a common relapse trigger.

We take pride in providing a safe place to make mistakes, even if the client is not yet aware of the potential pitfalls. All of these transitional measures are meant to gently guide the individual down the right track to recovering their life and their dignity.

Do I need to go through your residential program before beginning outpatient treatment?

Not necessarily. Some of the clients new to Harmony Place start directly in our outpatient program and take up residence at our transitional living home. This is possible when:

  • The client’s addiction isn’t severe enough to make residential treatment imperative, and/or
  • The client has completed an inpatient program elsewhere but has relapsed.

Before new clients are officially admitted into Harmony Place, we perform a screening and get to know about their background before determining whether they need residential treatment and what their individual treatment plan will be.

Is it required to stay in your transitional living home during outpatient treatment?

If you already live in the area and then go through our residential program, you’re not required to move into our transitional living home…but we highly, highly recommend it. There were likely reasons at home why you continued to drink or use drugs, and only 30 days away from that environment is not a long time.

If you stay in our transitional home, you will remain embedded within the sober community we’ve established; it’s within the same relative area as our residential and outpatient facilities. We also keep the costs of transitional living very affordable, so the expense shouldn’t dissuade you from living here rather than moving back home.

Since transitional living accompanies the outpatient program, what can I expect in outpatient treatment?

There are actually three levels of outpatient treatment at Harmony Place:

  • Partial hospitalization program (PHP)
  • Intensive outpatient program (IOP)
  • Outpatient program (OP)

Some clients progress through all three levels, while others are assigned to, and remain in, just one. It all depends on the individualized treatment plan.

Per the treatment plan, clients will receive a number of the following outpatient services:

  • Individual therapy
    • Twice-a-week meetings with dedicated therapist
  • Psychotherapy groups
    • Clinical topics
  • Psychoeducation groups
    • Addiction issues
    • Co-occurring disorders education
  • Career counseling
    • Train for and explore employment opportunities
  • Holistic group sessions
    • Mindful meditation
    • Energy healing
    • Creative art expression
    • Yoga
  • Experiential groups
    • Beach walks
    • Social outings
    • Equine-assisted therapy
