Our Medically Supervised Addiction Detox Program

Harmony Place is certified to offer medication-assisted treatment (MAT) during detox.
What this means is that our acute-care detox process involves administering specific medications to address and alleviate the discomfort of withdrawal. For example, we may prescribe Suboxone to help someone who’s trying to detox from opioid addiction. The difference at Harmony Place is we don’t function as a Suboxone or methadone clinic where clients indefinitely take one of these less-addictive opioid drugs. Our goal is to gradually taper the client down until he or she is off the potentially harmful, mind-altering drugs completely.

Tell me more about your location and facility.

Our country estate property is tucked away in an exclusive Woodland Hills, California neighborhood, providing a safe and nurturing environment to address the recovery needs of our residents. Our residential facility is located just northwest of Los Angeles, and it’s less than a half-hour drive to the nearest beach.

Our tranquil property boasts two separate houses for gender-specific accommodations, with upscale furnishings. Among the many amenities we offer, you’ll find a calming backyard pool, a weight room and our ever popular multi-story treehouse.

Do you emphasize individual therapy or group therapy more?

While we do a mix of both, our major emphasis is on individual therapy. Each client is assigned a dedicated therapist for tri-weekly counseling sessions.

While group therapy is an important part of addiction treatment, we find that many treatment centers use an overabundance of group sessions. Therefore, we treat group sessions as a complement to individual therapy. Individual, one-on-one therapy is critical because this is where much of the deeply personal processing and healing work is accomplished.

How long does your residential program last?

Each client has a chance to stay in our residential rehab facility for up to 30 days, including the time spent in detox.

We know that recovery takes much longer than that amount of time, which is why we offer a number of programs beyond residential treatment in order to cover the full continuum of care. These additional programs include:

  • Outpatient Treatment
  • Transitional Living Program
  • Alumni and Aftercare Program

I've heard of sub-acute detox. What is it?

When quitting drugs or alcohol – either cold turkey or through tapered detox – withdrawal symptoms will begin to peak as the chemicals leave the body. When the symptoms peak at the most intense stages, this is known as acute withdrawal.

After acute withdrawal has passed, the most dangerous portion of detox (safely removing toxins from the body) has been completed, though the lingering effects of withdrawal can persist for days or weeks. Sub-acute detox treats the patient for these lingering effects and symptoms, helping make it easier to focus on the therapy and recovery process that has likely begun by this point. Sub-acute detox may involve tapering off any medications that were prescribed during the acute stage of withdrawal.

How many clients does your program accommodate at one time?

Our co-ed residential program accommodates up to 12 residents at a time, permitting our dedicated treatment team to offer individualized attention. With such a manageable level of clientele, residents are treated to a high staff-to-client ratio, meaning each client isn’t just another number.

Do you offer any other special services?

If you come to Harmony Place with other medical conditions beyond substance use disorder and mental health disorders, we offer a medical staff that can help you manage your medication and overall wellness. If you have diabetes or a physical handicap, for example, we will make accommodations and have the right personnel on hand to help you manage these circumstances while in rehab.

Even if you don’t have such a condition, everyone under our care gets to benefit from unique, hands-on holistic services and accommodations, such as:

  • Acupuncture
  • Equine-Assisted Therapy
  • Chiropractic Care
  • Message Therapy
  • Yoga
  • Personal Training
  • Beach Walks
  • Light Work
