How to quit Abusing Drugs & Alcohol

What Exactly is Medical Detoxification?

Detoxification, often the first step in the recovery process, is eliminating toxins from the body of a person who has consumed excess alcohol or drugs. Detox helps lower the possibility of physical harm that may result from drug and alcohol addiction. Individuals tend to experience drug or alcohol withdrawal symptoms at a later stage. The medical detox process becomes the appropriate substance abuse treatment for them.

Withdrawal from certain substances can be uncomfortable and life-threatening for many, which is why the withdrawal process is done under medical supervision. It could appear like their world is crashing. However, a medication-assisted detox can help to navigate through this withdrawal phase. Visit our alcohol detox center to address every severe physical effect of withdrawal.

Also, at our Los Angeles detox center, provide medication-assisted treatment and supervised drug and alcohol detox in cases of underlying mental health concerns.

Heroin & Opioid Withdrawal

Opiate and opioid addiction have become unfortunately common. When individuals are working to end opioid or opiate addiction, the effects of withdrawal may be very challenging to experience. Whether people are using illicit drugs (i.e., heroin) or prescription drugs (i.e., fentanyl), the withdrawal signs can include:

  • Anxiety
  • Irritability
  • Insomnia
  • Runny nose
  • Depression
  • Rapid heart rate
  • Chills and sweating
  • Muscle aches and spasms
  • Abdominal cramps and diarrhea

Although withdrawal symptoms from heroin and prescription opioids are not necessarily life-threatening, they are challenging to manage on your own. Thankfully, opioid and opiate detox can help.

Alcohol Withdrawal

If a patient has been drinking alcohol heavily over the course of months or years, their central nervous system has adjusted to the presence of alcohol; they can experience withdrawal if they suddenly stop consuming it. Symptoms of alcohol withdrawal might include:

  • High fever
  • Sleep difficulties
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Difficulty concentrating
  • Restlessness, anxiety, and irritability

In severe cases, alcohol withdrawal can be life-threatening. It may lead to seizures, delirium, and hallucinations, among the more severe symptoms. Alcohol detox can help make this process more comfortable.

Benzodiazepine

Benzos produce feelings of calmness and relaxation. The body can develop a tolerance to them over time and can experience withdrawal symptoms when a person stops. Symptoms that may occur during the withdrawal process include:

  • Anxiety
  • Seizures
  • Headaches
  • Sweating or chills
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Restlessness and irritability
  • Muscle spasms and tremors

The help and supervision of medical professionals in a specialized drug detox center can help you get through these effects and stay safe and healthy.

Preparing For Treatment At Harmony Place

What Happens After Detox?

Detox and medically managed care happen simultaneously. This withdrawal is the first stage of alcohol and drug rehab. Detox focuses on the psychological, social, and behavioral problems linked to addiction. However, it does not perform all the lasting behavior changes needed for recovery. Hence, there is a need for professional assessment and a comprehensive treatment program.

After detoxing at our alcohol or residential detox center, our clients progress through residential treatment and eventually into our outpatient program for extended care. Through all phases of care, they will receive a tailored number of clinical, evidence-based, and holistic services to heal the body and mind and understand how to live a sober lifestyle going forward.

Residential inpatient

We provide a high level of care at our residential alcohol and drug abuse treatment centers. These intensive therapeutic services equip individuals with the skills they need to overcome substance abuse.

These centers have safe, structured, practical, evidence-based support groups that show care for people. Group therapy helps them overcome the serious negative consequences of their substance abuse. Inpatient treatment takes people away from their everyday environment. It enables them to become deeply involved in therapeutic work at a treatment facility. As part of our inpatient treatment program, patients can receive a higher level of care than can be provided in individual, group, or family therapy alone. Individuals can receive treatment in residential treatment. Treatment programs can range in length from 28 days to 6 months and longer for patients on their way to a drug-free life.

Outpatient Treatment

Outpatient treatment programs allow individuals to live at home or in a sober living home. This alcohol and drug addiction recovery program will enable people to receive the essential recovery services in a less intensive environment than residential rehab. They can focus on life skills while receiving treatment. Outpatient treatment at Harmony Place is not one size fits all. We offer several treatment steps requiring incremental levels of attendance from the client. The different levels of outpatient treatment are as follows, starting with the most intensive program: Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP); Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP); and Outpatient Treatment Program.

    • Absolutely the best recovery center around.

I am forever grateful to have had this experience. I would recommend anyone who wanted help to come here. This place literally saved my life. I have overcome so many obstacles that always stood in the way of my recovery. It’s not just because I was ready… the approaches the therapists use come from an empathetic, compassionate, and understanding place. They were able to hold the mirror up and help guide me through making solid changes.

    • This place literally saved my life.

After overdosing, my parents forced me to check into rehab. After interviewing many other facilities, I decided to go to Harmony Place from my home in Phoenix. I was struggling with…a drug addiction and had been trying for years to recover. In the past, left 2 treatment centers AMA and 1 AWOL. I had very negative experiences in the other treatment facilities, especially with my therapists, so I didn’t go in with an open mind or good attitude- even though they worked with my parents regarding finances. However, the staff was patient with me. The techs were kind, knowledgeable, and many were in recovery themselves.

    • They Answered on the First Call

When I called Harmony Place…I knew immediately that this was the right place for my child… Harmony Place is specifically designed for…and tailored to providing a safe environment. The staff [are knowledgeable and some are in recovery]. The staff knew each client and were on top of each client’s progress. Harmony Place has a small clientele and each client are able to receive all the help they were entitled to. I would recommend Harmony Place to anyone who is looking for a small setting… My daughter is currently going into sober living and her counselors did a wonderful job in finding a right fit for her – affordable, safe and a good environment for her.

    • I’ve Been Searching for the Perfect Words…

I left Harmony Place in August of 2015 and I have been searching for the perfect words to describe my experience during my stay; and still I can’t really find them. How do you really describe a place with a staff and a program that saved you? Addiction is a terrible thing to go through and a heart breaking thing for your loved ones to watch. Many people, including myself go into different treatment centers throughout their addiction searching for ways to find recovery. Nothing worked for me, not the 5 rehab stays I had, then, I came here.
