Employee Assistance Program for Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation

Keeping up with the demands of a high-accountability job can be stressful.

Amid all of your responsibilities on the job and at home, substance use might have entered the equation – either to de-stress at the end of the day or to keep your motor running so you can juggle 1,000 things at once.

If you’ve found yourself in this type of scenario, we understand where you’re coming from. It happens to the best of us. But the good news is you’re not alone in this struggle, and there’s a way out of this bind you’re in.

Your employer is federally mandated to provide an employee assistance program (for drug rehabilitation and other purposes). Continue reading to learn how Harmony Place provides addiction treatment for professionals in Los Angeles, California.

What We Offer at Harmony Place

Professionals Need Addiction Treatment Support, Too

Many people fear seeking treatment will hurt their careers or get them fired. In fact, according to the 2021 National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH), one of the most common reasons people avoid rehab is “being concerned that getting treatment might have a negative effect on their job (14.7 percent).”

However, there are laws against this type of discrimination, such as the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Addiction is considered a health condition, and people with addiction disorders are protected against discrimination in the workplace.

At Harmony Place, we’re especially receptive to individuals who need to take time away from their jobs in order to receive treatment for drug or alcohol addiction. Our working professionals program accepts individuals from a host of different professions, but some of the more common ones include:

  • First Responders
  • Doctors & Nurses
  • Lawyers
  • Dentists
  • Pilots
  • Athletes
  • Business Executives
  • Union Members
  • Blue Collar Workers

In all truth, if you’re in any viable career and you’d be looking to return to the same job and responsibilities once you complete rehab, then you’re considered a working professional.

Harmony Place helps working professionals get back on track through a continuum of care – spanning from detox and residential treatment to outpatient and aftercare services. We believe in long-term treatment because that’s what it truly takes to have your best chance of maintaining sobriety.

And, don’t worry about being away from work for too long. You can return to work once you graduate from our residential treatment program and move into our luxury transitional living home. During this phase of care, you will continue your treatment through outpatient programming, allowing you more time and flexibility to begin working again.

The First Step in the Treatment Process

You’ll Feel Right at Home

As with most other treatment centers, Harmony Place utilizes a significant amount of group therapy and education during client’s time with us. The difference is, here you’ll be among like-minded peers in your various groups.

Many of the other residents come from high-stakes professions as well, so there’s a good chance they will have similar backgrounds, likes, and preferences to yours. Having more in common with your peers in recovery will really open up group sessions and make your time in our addiction treatment program for professionals in Los Angeles that much more enjoyable.

  • Therapeutic referrals
  • Medical or psychiatric referrals

Answering Your Common Questions About Treatment

    Employee-Assisted Rehab Program FAQs

Do you have any additional questions about our addiction treatment for professionals in Los Angeles or the Harmony Place rehabilitation process? See if we have your answer to these frequently asked questions below, or reach us directly if there’s any specific question you need answered.

What kind of substances are working professionals commonly getting treated for?

Working professionals come to us with a litany of different addictions, but the most common kinds we end up treating are:

    • Alcohol
    • Prescription painkillers
    • Heroin
    • Stimulants (especially Adderall)
    • Anti-anxiety medications
    • Antidepressants
Will my job be in danger if I decide to take time off to pursue rehab?

Per the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) of 1993, you will likely be eligible to take up to 12 weeks off work for a serious health condition, and this implicates addiction treatment. If eligible, you can’t be fired from your position for seeking addiction treatment, although you will likely not get paid during your time away, of course.

The FMLA led to the creation of employee assistance programs (EAPs), of which each employer now has its own variation. Some of the eligibility requirements to take advantage of an EAP include:

    • You’ve worked for the same employer for the last 12 months.
    • You’ve worked at least 1,250 hours in those 12 months (equal to approximately 156 eight-hour days).
    • The employer has at least 50 employees who live within a 75-mile radius.

Some employers may let you use some or all of your paid leave during your time away. Even if you don’t meet all of the requirements above, you still may qualify employee-assisted rehab program. Interpretations of FMLA and EAPs vary from state to state, so feel free to contact us for help in understanding what you qualify for.

What can I expect from an addiction treatment for professionals?

Clients have the option of staying at our spacious transitional living home during the outpatient phase of treatment. Our transitional home provides a similar level of luxury and comfort as our residential facility, and is located in the same area of town. Clients will have the opportunity to resume some, if not all, of their work responsibilities during this time.

The Harmony Place continuum of care progresses in following fashion:

    • Detox Treatment
    • Residential Program
    • Outpatient Care
      • Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)
      • Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)
      • Outpatient Program (OP)
    • Aftercare Services

Make note that most clients don’t participate in all three outpatient programs after the 30-day residential program; we assess their current state and then determine which outpatient program would best suit their needs (with PHP being the highest level of outpatient treatment).

Do you involve the family in the treatment process?

Of course, Harmony Place firmly believes that your family needs to play an active role in your recovery for the effort to be successful. Your family needs to understand your addiction inside and out and provide continued support in your recovery journey.

So as you’re taking advantage of an employee assistance program for drug rehab, we keep the lines of communication open with your family during your entire stay, and we even solicit their input during the initial treatment-planning process. Better yet, they can periodically come to our facility for monthly family therapy sessions, and we offer weekend multi-family group meetings as part of our curriculum.
