Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) for Drug and Alcohol Addiction in Los Angeles, California
Partial Hospitalization Program for Substance Addiction in LA, California
Coping with addiction is painful for not just the victims, but also for those around them, family and friends included. As traumatic as drug or substance addiction is for the person suffering, dealing with the addict can many times be equally as such. Thus, adults must get the proper help needed to ensure everyone’s emotional well-being is in order.
This is why Harmony Place offers our clients and their family members attendance in family therapy sessions, among other treatments. However, having to stay on-site in a residential program for an extended period of time can seem frightening.
It’s no secret that most people are more inclined to want to sleep in their own beds and be in their own environment rather than in any rehab center, no matter how upscale and inviting it may be. So, to solve that problem, we have the following novel concept to put everyone at ease.
This is where our partial hospitalization program in Los Angeles, or PHP treatment, comes in.

What is a Partial Hospitalization Program?
A partial hospitalization program is an outpatient rehab program that provides therapy and treatment during the day and free time at night (hopefully away from drugs and the like). People also call PHPs a “day facility or hospital.” PHP treatment is a very structured day program, like an intensive outpatient program (IOP). It provides several hours of structured outpatient psychiatric services, such as therapy and skill-building groups, as an alternative to inpatient psychiatric care.
At a partial hospitalization program rehab in Los Angeles, the patient participates on-site in a daily routine (like individual therapy) in the morning and is released to go home to sleep at night. An individual continues to return to doing PHP treatment until they are fully capable of continuing on their own as a functioning member of society.
Like many partial hospitalization programs, our drug rehab in Los Angeles is equipped to treat people with co-occurring disorders, such as mental health disorders combined with drug abuse or substance use disorders. The average time frame for a partial hospitalization program in California, or anywhere for that matter, is roughly five to eight hours a day, five to seven days a week.

Is PHP Treatment the Right Option for You?
PHP treatment is similar to an intensive outpatient program. Yet, PHPs provide even more time for patients to attend on-site services like group therapy. Spending more time in any treatment program will help you identify triggers and underlying causes related to your addiction. Ideally, after a PHP, you can transition into a lower level of care to continue building skills to be used in recovery.
Professionals will perform any outpatient treatment program on-site. Adults will have the opportunity to attend therapy and other addiction treatment options around school or work.
PHP is the most intense form of outpatient care. Anyone considering a partial hospitalization program in Los Angeles should expect to commit a considerable amount of time to the treatment facility.
How Long Does a Partial Hospitalization Program Last?
Now, don’t worry about a PHP taking forever. Addiction partial hospitalization programs take place over an extended period based on the needs and symptoms of each patient. Afterward, the PHP patient should be good to go. A clinical professional determines that the patient has gotten past their addiction and can fully continue without relapse.
Another thing to realize is that despite its name, a partial hospitalization program does not mean that the patient actually stays on-site in a hospital. Instead, similar to a hospital that provides a certain level of care to its patients, a PHP can offer a medical level of care in any given location.
Should I Choose a Partial Hospitalization Program in Los Angeles?
This might be the number one answer you need as you begin to seek addiction treatment. No different than any other course of action for behavioral or mental health challenges, a mental health professional must determine when an addiction or mental health partial hospitalization program is necessary.
Often it can be challenging to navigate the levels of care at different mental health and addiction treatment centers. First, a medical professional will evaluate which program is best for you, whether our intensive outpatient programs (IOP), standard outpatient programs, inpatient treatment programs, or partial hospitalization programs (PHP).For those struggling with co-occurring disorders, Harmony Place features a dual diagnosis treatment facility as well.
Truth be told, most people who go through PHP treatment in Los Angeles, actually look like regular functioning members of society. They also, for the most part, come from a stable family environment.
PHP Patients Usually Meet the Following Criteria:
-
Medically stable and do not require the detox process
-
Have supportive environments at home
-
Not at risk of harming self or others
-
Motivated to participate in treatment and group therapy sessions
-
Difficulty functioning at work, school, or other occupations
-
Experiencing co-occurring mental health and substance abuse issues
Are Partial Hospitalization Programs Right for Everyone?
Absolutely not! Again, a PHP patient is usually coming from a stable home environment and is usually a functioning person. Suppose, for some reason, the patient comes from a dysfunctional family situation and is suffering from a severe addiction. In that case, a partial hospitalization program in California may not be what works best.
In such cases, an individual may need to get help through a residential treatment program. A residential program can provide 24-hour care to those working to overcome substance use disorders. It can also create a safe space for those with less than supportive families. This is why a treatment professional does an initial assessment with the client to determine the correct type of addiction medicine and treatment options they specifically need.

Absolutely the best recovery center around.
I am forever grateful to have had this experience. I would recommend anyone who wanted help to come here. This place literally saved my life. I have overcome so many obstacles that always stood in the way of my recovery. It’s not just because I was ready… the approaches the therapists use come from an empathetic, compassionate, and understanding place. They were able to hold the mirror up and help guide me through making solid changes.

This place literally saved my life.
After overdosing, my parents forced me to check into rehab. After interviewing many other facilities, I decided to go to Harmony Place from my home in Phoenix. I was struggling with…a drug addiction and had been trying for years to recover. In the past, left 2 treatment centers AMA and 1 AWOL. I had very negative experiences in the other treatment facilities, especially with my therapists, so I didn’t go in with an open mind or good attitude- even though they worked with my parents regarding finances. However, the staff was patient with me. The techs were kind, knowledgeable, and many were in recovery themselves.

They Answered on the First Call
When I called Harmony Place…I knew immediately that this was the right place for my child… Harmony Place is specifically designed for…and tailored to providing a safe environment. The staff [are knowledgeable and some are in recovery]. The staff knew each client and were on top of each client’s progress. Harmony Place has a small clientele and each client are able to receive all the help they were entitled to. I would recommend Harmony Place to anyone who is looking for a small setting… My daughter is currently going into sober living and her counselors did a wonderful job in finding a right fit for her – affordable, safe and a good environment for her.

I’ve Been Searching for the Perfect Words…
I left Harmony Place in August of 2015 and I have been searching for the perfect words to describe my experience during my stay; and still I can’t really find them. How do you really describe a place with a staff and a program that saved you? Addiction is a terrible thing to go through and a heart breaking thing for your loved ones to watch. Many people, including myself go into different treatment centers throughout their addiction searching for ways to find recovery. Nothing worked for me, not the 5 rehab stays I had, then, I came here.

What Type of Care Do Partial Hospitalization Programs in Los Angeles Entail?
As far as scheduling, every program is going to differ based on a variety of factors, from location, to clientele, etc. Still, most PHP treatment starts in the later morning hours and continue into the afternoon with their various routines. Lunch is usually served, but not breakfast and dinner, so make sure that the rehab patient has had a good breakfast before leaving and a hearty supper upon returning.
Every substance abuse rehab center providing PHPs can provide many outpatient services and therapies for any mild substance abuse problem. At our partial hospitalization program in Los Angeles, however, our clients can benefit from various therapies and treatment services.
On-Site Therapy and Treatment Modalities During a PHP:
- Individual therapy: Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) is often beneficial, with sessions for individuals seeking treatment programs for mental health disorders, substance use disorders, and drug abuse. The individual sessions are one-on-one with a trained therapist. The therapist will help clients stay motivated, apply the DBT skills to daily life, and discuss problems that may arise during their treatment.
- Cognitive-behavioral therapy: Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is an excellent tool for identifying negative beliefs and solutions for uprooting them. It focuses on the emotions of individuals in recovery and draws attention to present circumstances. Cognitive-behavioral therapists want to know what you tell yourself that may upset you or cause anxiety. Many recovering individuals find that talking to someone who understands the reasons for substance abuse brings great relief.
- Holistic therapy methods: Holistic therapy means that we treat you as a whole person, utilizing an array of holistic addiction treatment programs and therapies in conjunction with our clinical addiction care. Our integrated approach addresses the client’s physical, spiritual, and mental health needs. By employing alternative or complementary treatments, such as yoga, chiropractic, and acupuncture, alongside the 12 steps, education, and therapy, we can treat the whole person – rather than one single element or issue.
- Group therapy: While individual therapy focuses on the one-on-one aspect of therapist and patient, group therapy focuses on the group aspect, the building of support groups, and a strong support system, which can help members manage anything that might come up in their day-to-day lives that might make them want to use again. These support group sessions can also provide a great place to meet and make new friends with shared interests and goals.
Additional On-Site Forms of Substance Addiction Treatment
- Treatment for co-occurring conditions: A mental health disorder plays a role in nearly half of all drug and alcohol addiction cases, which is why it’s not only helpful when addiction treatment facilities or rehabilitation facilities are equipped to address mental health issues. Rather than just being beneficial, it’s a must; hence, we here at Harmony Place offer dual diagnosis rehab in California. Treating mental health and addiction issues together is known as integrated or dual diagnosis treatment.
- SMART Recovery (Self-Management and Recovery Training): SMART is a global community of mutual support groups and a method of moving away from addictive substances and negative behaviors to a life of positivity and willingness to change. At meetings, participants help one another resolve problems with any addiction (to drugs or alcohol, to activities such as gambling or over-eating).
- Trauma-sensitive yoga: Often, our treatment plans include a form of yoga known as Trauma Sensitive Yoga, which is less about hitting the different poses, and more about grounding yourself to feel a sense of connection between your body and your mind that feels secure, which often helps clients with their stress management and helps in relapse prevention
- Medication management: Medication management is the use of medication to complement counseling and group therapy. This is part of an addiction treatment plan that primarily helps those with co-occurring mental health disorders because a medical professional or mental health professional will help oversee prescribing of your medication to manage addiction-related mental health symptoms.
As stated earlier, once all the rehab routines are complete, the patient is free to go home to rest until the next morning when they will return for day treatment. Due to the vast amount of methods available, there’s no need to worry when applying for PHP treatment. You can rest assured that the level of care provided by a mental health care professional will be more than sufficient.
At Harmony Place, our Los Angeles partial hospitalization program treatment can meet your unique needs. We aim to help you thrive and push you beyond your current limitations for a better life.
Addiction Treatment Made for Your Specific Needs
Like in every group therapy setting, every case is unique. No person is the same or needs the same treatment process, especially those from vastly different backgrounds. Not only that, the personalities dealing with those issues have a spectrum that can probably circle the Earth twice! That said, some people may need only a few weeks, some a few months, or maybe longer.
PHP is not an indefinite process. It will eventually no longer be necessary once the care team determines everything is in order. The patients themselves, considering they are functioning human beings, will be able to tell for themselves when it’s really time to call it quits.
Our Los Angeles partial hospitalization program treatment aims to play itself out in the form of short-term treatment versus long-term. The end goal is to help the rehab patient improve enough to transfer to a lower level of care like an outpatient program or an intensive outpatient program (IOP), where they can continue their individual therapy and group therapy sessions at one of our rehab centers while transferring to more everyday life. From there, a person should already be more than halfway to the finish line to successful healing and carrying on.
